October marks Bushfire Action Month - a reminder to the community to ensure your home, property and family are prepared for the upcoming bushfire season.
Throughout Bushfire Action Month a number of community events are held to help you prepare for bushfires. This includes street meets, property walk throughs and fire brigade open days, where volunteer firefighters and Bushfire Ready groups are on hand to offer advice about how to prepare and respond to bushfires.
Now is the time to get involved – it’s a great way to get to know your neighbours and discuss your plans if a bushfire threatens your suburb.
Ways you can prepare for bushfires include:
- Have a bushfire survival plan
- Prepare a bushfire survival kit
- Prepare your property, including creating a 20 metre asset protection zone
- Know and understand bushfire warnings
