The 5 Rooms Retreat property was a custom design and is situated in the Margaret River area.
We constructed the modular home at our Maddington yard with features including:
louvered pergolas, awnings and double glazed and sealed windows
a solar hot water unit
LED lighting throughout
high density wall insulation, R4.1 ceiling insulation and floor insulation
water supply from rain water tanks, grey water usage system, an aerobic reticulated sewage treatment system
an impressive PV solar panel system with battery storage and a generator.
It left our yard on multiple trucks and arrived the same day, and was complexed (reassembled) on the second day.
When the building was installed on the property, it was oriented to capture sunshine in the winter months and cross ventilation breezes in the summer.
It was an interesting project for us and we have found that enquiry for off grid homes is increasing. There is quite a range in price for the equipment required to go off grid, but there is a direct correlation to the performance and ability. Reliability is crucial if you have cut all ties with the power grid and other services.
5 Rooms Retreat is also a great giving back project with the owners donating all profits to the Breast Cancer Research Centre WA.
The property received coverage in The West Australian New Homes Guide.
This property will be open for Sustainable House Day 2019 on September 15th. You can find details of the day here.
