Q+A with
Brett Garrett, our Construction Manager
Originally a country boy who moved to the city in search of better opportunities, I have a carpentry trade background. Throughout my career in the building industry I have held various positions from trade, supervision, administration, middle to general management – and now to Construction Manager for TR Homes (and parent company MRN Group).
Tell us a little about yourself ...
I’m married to Pamela and have two great daughters - both married to great guys and three lovely grand children. I actually retired in 2014 but re-entered the workforce in 2016 as I was driving my wife stir-crazy! Retirement didn’t suit me as I need to be challenged and active all the time.
I enjoy getting out and meeting people, travel both in Aussie and overseas, scuba diving, fishing and spending time with the family. Love life and all that comes with it and endeavour not to take things to seriously away from my work.
And yes, I'm a West Coast Eagles supporter (don't hold it against me!).
What does your role as Construction Manager for TR Homes entail?
My role is to provide leadership and direction to encourage the team to deliver great product and service to our client base both in TR Homes and MRN.
I worked closely with thet team to improve systems and processes to improve our efficiency and product delivery to the end user.
What do you find most interesting about the role?
I enjoy the diverse nature of the work and the challenges that come with the wide range of product we produce and the locations we deliver our homes.
Have you noticed any interesting emerging trends in construction or the home building industry as a whole?
The Western Australian Metropolitan market is now becoming more open to use of alternative product rather than focus on cavity brick construction, which provides TR/MRN more opportunities to venture into other markets.
One interesting bit of trivia is they are trailing constructing homes in Dubai with 3D Printers and having some success.
